I am a self-taught artist whose creations are a result of spontaneous, energetic, and passionate emotions and memories which are fused to inspire my work. I consider my art a therapy that allows me to express my innermost feelings. My love for colors and the intensity of metal has brought me to produce the kind of art I do. In my art, I display fervent feelings and whimsical arrangements by sculpturing brass strips on a brass sheet brought to life by the addition of vibrant acrylic colors. The combination of the strength of metal along with the vulnerability and warmth of colors creates an ardent composition I personally relate to. I mold into my creations, the spirit and essence of passion, the peace of harmony, and the joy and cheerfulness of bliss, feelings I consider essential and vital to a happy, fulfilled life.

I was born Maru Macías in Havana, Cuba. The name Maru originates in the Basque lands of my ancestors in northern Spain. My grandparents migrated to Cuba, where my father had a number of factories that molded metal into everything from cups to staircases. This is where my appreciation for metals stems from and the reason why from a very young age I was intrigued with the durability and strength of metal. In 1961, I started a new life in the United States, where my father started the same kind of business, and although very young I worked by his side.

My family members inspire each of my creations and are the thrust that encourage me to fulfill a dream and attain realization as an artist. They motivate, incite, and arouse me to create uniqueness and beauty in every piece I compose. Therefore, every one of my pieces is a reflection of my love and zeal for my family members.

I attended the University of Miami where I received a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. I then married my college sweetheart and have three children and two grandchildren. I later acquired a Master degree in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

I have exhibited my work at several philanthropic causes, art galleries, and art shows throughout the Unites States.
